The sclerotium contains a kind of proteolytic enzyme, omphalin, which is the active constituent.

| Pharmacology Actions: |
The pharmacological tests proved
that in vitro its infusion was an effective agent
against tapeworms. Its ethanol extract also showed
significant ascaricidal effect. Its decoction had
some antitrichomonal effect and omphalin showed
antineoplastic effect against sarcoma 180 in mice.

| Actions and Indications: |
The drug is used as anthelmintic;
for the treatment of taeniasis,ancylostomiass and
ascarid. It should not be boiled or used as decoction.
Dosage 15-21 g.
