Magnolia Flower Bud
|
| Constituents: |
Flower buds contain volatile oils consisting
mainly of citric acid, eugenol, cineole. Root
contains magnolia. Leaf and fruit contain flu-
coside of paeonidin.

| Pharmacology Actions: |
1. Hepotensive effect: The aqueous or alcohol
extract of the dried flower buds given by intra-
venous, intramuscular, or intraperitoneal injec-
tion to anesthetized dogs, cats, and rabbits pro-
duced hypotension. The intra muscular injection
also reduced blood pressure in unanesthetized
dogs.
2. Actions on the uterus: In isolated uteri of
rats and rabbits, in situ uteri of dogs and rab-
bits, it was proved that the decoction and fluid
extract of the herb could excite the uterus.This
action was achieved at doses which did not signi-
ficanthy affect the blood pressure and respira-
tion. The component which had an excitatory
action on the uteri was proved to be the nonvo-
latile substance soluble in both water and etha-
nol.
3. Antibacteria effect: Its decoction proved
to have inhibitory against various pathogenic
fungi.
