Seed contains abrine, precatorine, hypaphorine,
trigonelline, choline, abrus agglutinin, abrin
A,B, lectin, amino acids, squalene, ¦Â-amyrin,
cycloartenol, ¦Â-sitosterol, abricin ,abridin,
5-¦Â-cholanic acid, gallic acid and saccharide.

| Pharmacology Actions: |
1. Abridin shows very strong inhibitory action
on cell protein synthesis;it caused cancer cells
agglutination, mitosis stopping, polysonme and
DNA synthesis decreasing. It shows effect on
various cancer cells such as Ehrlich ascitic
carcinoma, lewis lung carcinoma, uterus carci-
noma, sarcoma of uterus, carcinoma of ovary,
sarcoma of ovary, mastocarcinoma, carcinoma of
rechum, fibrosarcoma, Ewong's sarcoma, Jitian
sarcoma.
2. oral administration of steroid component for
20 days, 150mg one day in mice and rats before
the mating, the infertility rate is 100%; oral
administration of steroid component for 1¡«5
days, 150mg one day, the infertility rate is
80%; hypodermice injection of the aqueous ex-
tract on mice, LD50 is 0.2mg/kg; Intravenous
injection of abrin in mice, LD50 is 10¡«13
¦Ìg/kg;abrin for hypodermice injection in mice,
rabbits, guinea pigs, cats, MLD is 0.4mg/kg,
other animals MLD is 0.04mg/kg. The seed could
induce lung, heart,stomach,intestinum angustum
and kidney bleeding;abrin could induce nervous
system disorder, all body bleeding, hepatic
necrosis, lymph hyperemia.

| Actions and Indications: |
Poisonous. It is used as parasiticide. For the
treatment of ringworm infection. It should not
be used for oral administration in case toxic
actions.
