Cochinchina Momordica Seed

| Constituents: |
The drug conatins momordin,
momordic acid and gypsogenin. And it also con-
tains fatty oil and saccharides.

| Pharmacology Actions: |
The aqueous extract,
aqueous ethanol extract and ethanol extract
showed hypotensive effect on anaesthetized
animals like dogs, cats and rabbits. Its high
toxicity caused the animals death within
several days after either intravenous injection
intramuscular injection. Intravenous injection
of its saponin exhibited transient hypotensive
effect and inhibitory action on the isolated
frog heart and isolated rabbit duodenum and
increased the action of acetylcholine and anti-
papeverine effect on the ileum of guinea pig
and also showed irreversible contraction at
high concentration.It also had hemolytic effect
on red cells of rabbit. The LD50 of Momordic
saponin in mice was 32.25mg/kg by intravenous
injection and 37.34mg/kg IP.

The drug is used as
antiswelling agent, relieving nodulation; for
the treatment of sores and inflammatory, mas-
titis, scrofula, hemorrhoids, anal fistula,
chronic eczema, neurodermatitis, scald.
