The glycoside, AA2,
injected intraperitoneally into normal rats at
the dose range of 1.25-5mg/kg, exhibited a
significant hypoglycemic action. The 100%
decoction of the herb given intragastrically
to mice at the dose of 0.3 ml/animal exhibited
an antitussive action. Its decoction inhibited
the isolated hearts of frog and guinea pig,
lowered heart rate and weakened cardiac con-
tractility. In vitro studies proved that its
50% decoction showed moderate or slight
inhibitory action against Staphylococcus
aureus, beta Streptococci and Diplococcus
pheumoniae. AA2 had a transient but prominent
leukopenic action. The extract stimulated the
isolated intestine of rabbit. Its LD50 in mice
by intraperitoneal injection was 0.93g/kg. Its
