| Constituents: |
The fruit contains geniposide,
gardenoside, genipin-1-¦Â-D-gentiobioside,
shanzhiside, gardoside,scandoside methyl ester,
deacetyl-asperulosidis acid methyl ester, geni-
posidic acid, nonacosane, ¦Â-sitosterol, D-man-
nitol, ursolic acid, and traces of crocin.

| Pharmacology Actions: |
Its extract attenuated
carbon tetrachloride-induced liver damage. Ex-
periments on rats and rabbits indicated that it
had cholagogic and choleric actions. Its etha-
nol extract decreased the spontaneous activity
of the animals indicating its sedative effect
and it also had antipyretic action. Its decoc-
tion or ethanol extract showed hypotensive
effect in experimental animals. It showed anti-
bacterial effect and in vitro inhibitory
actions against various skin fungi. The decoc-
tion was lethal to leptospirae and schistosomes.
The acute LD50 of the fluidextract was 31.7g/kg
SC in mice.

The drug is used as
antipyretic, diuretic, antidote and hemostatic;
for the treatment of febrile diseases with
restlessness, jaundice with dark urine, hema-
turia with difficult painful urination, inflam-
mation of the eye, boils and sores, external
use for sprains and bruises.
