The seed contains jujuboside A, B,
flavonoids, betulic acid, betulin, fatty oils,
proteins, steroids, and volatile oil with sti-
mulative smell.

| Pharmacology Actions: |
The seed had excellent
sedative and hypnotic effects on various animal
species. The water-soluble extract greatly
reduced the convulsion rate and mortality rate
of animals. Its decoction at 5g/kg had a signi-
ficant analgesic effect in mice and a hypother-
mic effect by IP at 2.5 or 5 g/kg or intragas-
trically at 40g/kg. Its decoction caused a
drastic and prolonged hypotension in anesthe-
tized dogs and heart block and marked uterine
excitation. The leaf could improve myocardial
ischemia and increase the tolerance of myocar-
dium to hypoxia. Its ethanol extract increased
the survival rate and prolonged the survival of
scalded mice and markedly checked the
deterioration of edema in mice due to scald.The
LD50 of the decoction was 14.3¡À2.0g/kg IP.

sedative and astringent; for the treatment of
insomnia,palpitation, excessive sweating due to
debility, thirst due to consumption of body
fluid.
