Coix Seed

| Constituents: |
Coix Seed contains fatty oil
including coixenolide,coixol and protein, amino
acids, a small amount of vitamin B, calcium,
phosphorus, iron, etc..

| Pharmacology Actions: |
The ethanol extract by
IP to mice inhibited Ehrlich ascitic carcinoma
and prolonged the survival period of the test
animals. The active antineoplastic constituent
was coixenolide. Its oil and coixol inhibited
muscular contraction of the frog. Coixol showed
sedative effect at 10mg/kg by IV to mice by
reducing its spontaneous activity. Coixol also
showed hypothermia, antipyretic effect and
analgesic effect. Low doses of its oil stimu-
lated the isolated rabbit small intestine while
high doses had initial stimulant succeeded by
inhibitory effect. It has a very slight
toxicity.

The drug is used as
stomachic, tonic, diuretic;for the treatment of
edema, oliguria, arthritis with contracture of
joints, diarrhea, pulmonary abscess, appendici-
tis, flat warts.
