| Constituents: |
The volatile oil in pericarp
consists of methylchavicol and bergapten, in
that of Zanthoxylum bungeanum consists of limo-
nene, cumicalcohol, geraniol.

| Pharmacology Actions: |
Geraniol contained in
the volatile oil inhibited the spontaneous
activity of rats at small dose, while it inhi-
bited intestinal activity at large dose. The
lethal dose showed cathartic effect oral admi-
nistration at small dose had weak diuretic
effect in rats but inhibited the urine excre-
tion at large dose. Intravenous injection to
rabbits produced quick and marked hypotensive
effect. The LD50 in rats was 4.8g/kg PO while
in rabbits was 50mg/kg IV. Geraniol showed
ascaricidal effect on guinea pigs.

The drug is used as
as analgesic, anthelmintic, and antipruritic;
for the treatment of gastralgia,vomiting,
diarrhea, ascariasis, externally for eczema.
