| Constituents: |
leonurine,stachydrine,rutin,fumaric acid,
stachyose, lauric acid, linoleic acid, oleic,
etc.. Wormwoodlike Motherwort Fruit contains
fixed oil consisting chiefly of oleic acid,
linolenic acids, and traces of alkaloids such
as leonurinine, stachydirne, etc..

| Pharmacology Actions: |
The decoction, ethanol
extract and leonurine had a stimulant effect on
the uteri of many animals and the active stimu-
lant principle mainly resided in the leaf. Low
dose of leonurine decreased the tonicity of the
isolated rabbit intestinal tract and increased
its contraction amplitude, whereas high dose
decreased the amplitude of contraction, but
increased its frequency. Small doses of leo-
nurine enhanced contraction of the isolated
frog heart, but large doses caused inhibition.
Perfusion of leonurine into frog blood vessels
caused vasoconstriction directly proportional
to the concentration of the test solution. In
rats with isoproterenol-induced myocardial
ischemia,it improved or normalized the ischemic
ECG, increased the coronary flow, improved the
microcirculation, decreased the heart rate, and
antagonized platelet aggregation.It also showed
direct stimulant action on the respiratory
center. The LD50 of the total alkaloids in mice
was 572.2¡À37.2 mg/kg IV.

| Actions and Indications: |
Motherwort Herb is used
to promote blood circulation and regulate
menstruation, to eliminate blood stasis, to
induce subsidence of swelling and cause
diuresis; for the treatment of menstrual disor-
ders, dysmenorrhea,abdomen pain caused by post-
partum blood clots, edema caused by nephritis,
oliguria, carbuncles and sores, traumatic
injuries. Wormwoodlike Motherwort Fruit is used
as bloodactivator, hyperacitivity of the liver,
and to clear the eye of opacity; for the treat-
ment of menstrual disorders, amenorrhea,
dysmenorrhea, dizziness, etc..
