| Constituents: |
The drug contains betulinic acid,
ursolic acid, oleanolic acid, arctigenin,
arctiin, matairesinol, matairesinoside, phylly-
genol, phillyrin, forsythol, etc..

| Pharmacology Actions: |
The herb is a broad-
spectrum antibiotic, inhibiting many gram-
positive and gram-negative bacteria. The 300%
seed injection at the dose of 30-40g/kg given
intraperitoneally markedly inhibited egg white-
induced paw swelling of rats and promoted
phagocytosis of the inflammatory cells in mice.
The herb decoction or compound injection with
other herbs exhibited marked antipyretic
action. The herb decoction also showed antie-
metic action by intragastric administration.Its
100% fruit decoction by IV to anesthetized dogs
at 0.25g/kg produced an excellent diuretic
action. The oleanolic acid contained in the
shell had a weak diuretic and cardiotonic
action. Its 100% fruit injection by IV to anes-
thetized dogs at 0.25g/kg showed marked hypo-
tensive action.Its 1:1 herb decoction prevented
the rats from hepatic degeneration necroses
induced by carbon tetrachloride. The LD50 ofits
1:1 injection in mice was 24.85¡À1.12g/kg IP.

The drug is used as
antipyretic, antidote, antiswelling agent; for
the treatment of febrile diseases, boils, car-
buncles, mastitis, erysipelas, lymphadenitis,
acute urinary infection with oliguria.
