Arecoline is a muscarinicreceptor antagonist.
The consumption of it inc-
reased the gastrointestinal smooth muscle tone,
intestinal peristalsis, digestive juice secre-
tion, and the appetite. Arecoline decreased the
heart rate and caused constriction of the coro-
nary artery as well as contraction of the
uterine smooth muscle in rabbits and potentiate
the vasoconstriction effect of atropine on the
mouse hind limbs. It stimulated the nicotinic
receptors manifested as excitation of skeletal
muscles nerve ganglions and carotid bodies. The
aqueous extract inhibited skin fungi such as
Schlemn's Dermatomyces favosa and active action
