| Pharmacology Actions: |
1. Effect on blood pressure: The aqueous ex-
tract of the root, alkaline liquor, acidic
ethanol in fusion and the aqueous extract of
the leaves, all showed hypotensive effect in
dogs. The aqueous and ethanol infusion also
showed hypotensive effect in cats and rabbits.
In clinical, the root table showed certain
effective in hypertensive.
2. Antibacterial effect: In vitro test, the
decoction of fresh root showed inhibitory
action against Streptococcus typh A, and the
decoction of fresh leaves against Shigella
flexneri. The decoction of the rood and the
distilled liquor of whole herb (1:4000) and
the ethanol extract (1:30000) all inhibited
the growth of Mycobactacterium taberculosis
var. hominis. In clinical, the aqueous deco-
ction of fresh root and injection preparation
are use for the treatment of pulmonary tuber-
culosis.

It is used to remove blood heat, arrest hemo-
rrhage, dispel stagnant and swelling. For the
treatment of epistaxis, spitting of blood,
melena, hematuria, metrorrhagia, sores and
carbuncles.
