The drug contains taraxasterol,
choline, inulin, pectin, taraxerol, taraxol,
taraxanthin, crytoxanthin, cryptoxanthin-
epoxide, zeaxanthin, lutein, etc..

| Pharmacology Actions: |
n vitro its injection
was proved to have antibacterial effect. Its
extract (1:400)in vitro inhibited Mycobacterium
tuberculosis, while its decoction 1:100 showed
no effect. Ethanol extract 31mg/kg was lethal
to leptospirae and also showed inhibitory
action against some fungi. Reports from foreign
countries proved it had cholagogic and choleric
effect on experimental animals and had diuretic
effect. The root or the whole herb was used as
bitter gastric tonic or weak cathartic agent.

| Actions and Indications: |
The drug is used as
febrifuge, detoxicant, antiedemic, diuretic,
stomachic; for the treatment of acute mastitis,
lymphadenitis, acute conjunctivitis, acute ton-
sillitis and tracheitis, hepatitis, cholecysti-
tis, dysentery, enteritis, inflammation of the
eye, insect and snake bite, scalds.
