| Constituents: |
The drug contains 6,7-dimethoxy-coumarin. Whole
herb contains volatile oils comprised of thujyl
alcohol, furfuraldehyde,methylheptanone,carvone,
1,8-cineole, thujone, geranylacetate, cadinene,
eugenol, ¦Á-pinene, ¦Â-pinene, agropyrone, etc.
The herb also contains choline,nonandioic acid,
caryophyllene epoxide, scopoletin, tannin and
fatty oils. Leaf contains scoparone, coumarin,
isocoumarin, and capillarin. Root contains ¦Â-
sitosterol, tannin, oxalic acid, etc..

| Pharmacology Actions: |
Its preparation fos-
tered bile secretion and excretion. If used with
ginipin from the fruit of Gardenia jasmi-
noides, it produced a synergistic effect in
promoting bile secretion. Its decoction to rats
with carbon tetrachloride-induced liver damage
seemed to possess a liver-protective action. Its
decoction was proved to have antiatherosclerotic
action, anticoagulant and fibrinolytic actions,
hypotensive action, antibacterial actions, anti-
leptospiral action, ascaricidal action, antipy-
retic action. Oral administration of the herb
was lethal to Ehrlich ascites carcinoma cells in
mice.

| Actions and Indications: |
The drug is used to
remove damp-heat, and relieve jaundice; for the
treatment of infectious icteric hepatitis, chole-
cystitis, sores, itching.
