The herb contains volatile oils,
such as decahoyl acetaldenyde, myrcene, ¦Á-
pinene, d-limonene, 2-methyhepenone, camphene,
bornyl acetate, linalool, caryophyllene, dode-
-canaldehyde, etc..

| Pharmacology Actions: |
In vitro studies showed
that the fresh juice showed antibacterial
action. The active principle is decanoyl
acetaldehyde. In vitro studies also showed that
its decoction markedly promoted the phagocytic
ability of human peripheral leukocytes against
Staphylococcus aureus. Its powder exerted a
diuretic effect owing to quercetin and large
amounts of potassium salt it contained. Its
decoction had a distinct anti-inflammatory
action on formaldehyde elicited paw swelling
in rats. It also had analgesic and hemostatic
effects, antitussive effects, antineoplastic
effects and mild sedative and anticonvulsant
effects in mice.

| Actions and Indications: |
The drug is used as
antipyretic, antidote, diuretic and anti-
swelling agent; for the treatment of ton-
sillitis, trachitis, pneumonitis, genitouring-
-nary tract infection, edema caused by ne-
phritis,acute dysentery, excessive leukorragia,
etc.; external use for carbuncles and sores,
snake bite.
