| Constituents: |
The leaf contains fumaric acid, rutin, flavone,
phenolic derivatives, amino acid, tannins, redu-
cing saccharide. The stem contains naringenin
5,7-dimethylether 4'-o-¦Â-D-xylopyranosyl-¦Â-D-
arabinopyranoside,eriodictyol 5,7-dimethylether
4'-o-¦Â-D-arabinopyranoside.The flower contains
nonacosane, betulic acid, ¦Â-sitosteral, quer-
cetin, kaempferol, etc..

| Pharmacology Actions: |
1. The leaf showed inhibitory action against
croton oil induced ear edema in mice, against
agarinduced swelling and peritoneal permeability
in mice, and against cotton pledget-induced rats
as well.
2. The extract of the leaf and flower, through
tube dilution, exhibited inhibitory action
against Staphylococcus aureus, Pseudomonas aeru-
ginosa, Paratyphoid bacillus,E.coli and Proteus
vulgaris.
3. Betulic acid has antineoplastic and anti-
inflammatory effects.

| Actions and Indications: |
The drug is used as antipyretic, anti-inflamma-
tory agent, blood purifying agent, hemostatic,
anti-swelling agent, analgesic, for the treat-
ment of cough, spitting blood, metrorrhagia,
carbuncles and sores,tuberculosis of lymphatics,
appendicitis. External use for carbuncles and
sores, snake bites, traumatic injuries, scalds
and burns, paratitis. Appropriate quantity to be
pounded fine and spread over the lesion.
