| Constituents: |
The fruits and seeds contain L-
perillaldehyde, egomaketone, matsutake alcohol,
L-linalool; the stem and leaf contain perillal-
dehyde, 1-limonene, ¦Á-pinene, arginine, cumic
acid, etc..

| Pharmacology Actions: |
The leaf decoction or
extract 2g/kg PO to rabbits with typhoid fever
showed weak antipyretic effect.In vitro studies
the leaf inhibited the growth of staphylococ-
cus. Its oil 0.35ml/kg PO to rabbit showed
hyperglycemic effect. The main active consti-
tuent perillaldehyde showed stronger hypergly-
cemic action than its oil when made into Oxim.

| Actions and Indications: |
Perilla Leaf is used as
diophoretic, stomachic; for the treatment of
common cold with cough and nausea, vomiting of
pregnancy, fish or crab poison. Perilla Stem is
used as stomachic, analgesic; for the treatment
of stuffiness in the chest,epigastric pain with
belching, vomiting. Perilla Fruit is used as
antitussive, expectorant, laxative; for the
treatment of cough, dyspnea, constipation.
