Honeylocust Fruit contains
glycoside which yields albigenic acid with
hydrolysis, gleditsia saponin,echinocystic acid;
and tannin, ceryl alcohol, etc..

| Pharmacology Actions: |
The saponin containe
in the fruits showed affinity with cholesterol
and strong hemolytic action, while the chole-
sterol antagonized its hemolytic action. It's
very toxic to fish. High doses of saponin caused
high stimulation to gastrointestinal mucous mem-
brane, hence resulted in vomiting and diarrhea,
and poisoning. It also showed expectorant action
and antibacterial effect. In vitro the dried
unripened fruit was lethal to filaria larvae.
Actions and Indications Chinese Honeylocust
Abnormal Fruit is used as carminative, anti-
phlogistic; for the treatment of stroke, head-
ache, asthma with phlegm, sore throat, consti-
pation, dysentery,haematochezia, scabies, acute
mastitis.
