The drug contains catechu, tannin,
catechin, (-)epicatechin, mucilage, fatty oils,
gum, and wax, etc..

| Pharmacology Actions: |
The aqueous solution
inhibited duodenum and small intestinal peris-
talsis in rabbits and enhanced the cecum
reversed peristalsis, causing cathartic effect.
The decoction showed inhibitory action against
Staphylococcus aureus, Corynebacterium diph-
theriae, Proteus vulgaris, Shigella flexneri,
Salmonella typhi, etc.. It was inhibitory
against common pathogenic skin fungi.

The drug is used as
astringent, promoting tissue regeneration; for
the treatment of festering wound difficult to
heal up, skin diseases with watery discharge,
ulcers in the mouth, traumatic injury with pain
and bleeding.
