| Constituents: |
Rhizome shows ¦Â-sitosterol, ¦Â-sitosterol-glu-
coside and amino acid reactions.

| Pharmacology Actions: |
1. Acute toxicity: 50% ethanol extract of the
drug added with aqueous extract preparation, LD50
is 46 (1.7(g/kg).
2. Anti-convulsion action: Abdominal injection
on mice, the aqueous extract 3g/kg could markedly
antagonize strychnine and caffeine-induced con-
vulsion, but could not antagonize electric-shock-
induced convulsion.
3. Expectorate effect: Phenol red method test,
its water preparation (20g/kg oral administration)
showed expectorate effect in mice.

| Actions and Indications: |
The drug is used as sedative, expectorant, anti-
swelling agent; for the treatment of cough,shock,
deviation of the mouth, hemiplegia, epilepsy,
tetanus;external use of the crude drug for boils
and sores.
