| Constituents: |
The drug contains a-dichroine,
b-dichroine, r-dichroine, dichroidine,
4-quinazolone, umbeliferone (dichrin A) and
dichrin B.

| Pharmacology Actions: |
The aqueous or ethanol
extract had significant antimalarial effect.The
antimalarial efficacy of the leaf was five
times that of the root. In vitro, ¦Â-dichroine
was shown to inhibit Entamoeba histolytica,with
a potency twice that of emetine hydrochloride.
The decoction or ¦Ã-dichroine showed marked
antipyretic effect. The ¦Á-, ¦Â-, and ¦Ã-
dichroines were shown to have a marked
hypotensive action in anesthetized dogs,markedly
inhibited the isolated rabbit heart. All three
dichroines caused motor inhibition on the
isolated small intestine of rabbit. In vitro,
the aqueous extract inhibited influenza virus
PR8. In vitro studies proved that ¦Â-dichroine
was lethal to Ehrlich acites carcinoma cells.
