| Pharmacology Actions: |
Perennial herb up to 2 m high, whole herb densely
villous. Stem erect, much branched. Leaves alter-
nate, petioles 2-14 cm long, hairy; blades broad
ovate or subround, 5-16 cm by 3.5-14 cm, acumi-
nate at apex, round and broad cuneate at base;
green, rough, loose rough hairy above, covered
by white hairs beneath, rough serrate on edges,
3- veined from base; stipules caducous. Flowers
unisexual, monoecious, growing on axillary pani-
cles, pistillate usually on upper part; staminate
flowers yellow white, parianth 4, stamens oppo-
site with perianth exceeding perianth, showing
reduced pistils; pistillate flowers greenish,
aggregate in globular inflorescence, perianth
tubular, 4-toothed, ovary 1-celled covered by
perianth, one ovule in each ovary, stigma single,
hairy. Achenes aggregated, small, elliptic,
compressed, covered by short hairs, imbedded in
persistent perianth, persistent stigma silky,
seed 1. Flowerling in May-Aug., fruiting in Aug.-
Oct..
