The drug contains phytolacoside E,
phytolaccatoxin, alkaloid, 7-stigasterol, ¦Á-
spinasterol, ferredoxin A, and B, etc..

| Pharmacology Actions: |
Perfusion of the toad
kidney with its extract caused a marked
increase in the urine output. The phenol red
excretion test on rabbits proved that its
decoction had marked expectorant effect. Its
alkaloids had marked antitussive effect intra-
gastrically. The decoction and tincture
inhibited some strains of bacteria. The ethanol
extract significantly inhibited the formaldely-
deinduced paw swelling in rats. In vitro, the
acidic steroidal saponin isolated had a sper-
micidal action and 100% decoction showed
radiation-resistant action and also emetic,
purgative and taeniafugal actions.

The drug is used as
diuretic, antidote, anti-inflammatory agent;
for the treatment of anasarca with oliguria and
constipation, ascites; externally used for
bleeding due to traumatic injuries, carbuncles,
sores.
