The drug contains alizarin, purpurin,xanthopurpurin, pseudopurpurin, physcion,
rubiadin, lucidin ethyl ether, munjistin,1- hydroxy - 2 - hydroxymethyl - anthraquinone,
ruberythric acid, etc..

| Pharmacology Actions: |
Local application of
its powder showed hemostatic effect. The oral
administration of its decoction in mice had sig-
nificant antitussive and expectorant effect. It
had marked inhibitory action against Staphylo-
coccus aureus, Staphylococcus albus, etc.. The
aqueous extract excited the isolated guinea pig
uterus.When orally administered to women during
labor, it strengthened uterine contraction.
Besides it also showed antineoplastic effect
and leukocytosis action.
