The drug contains essential oils,
deltoin, 3`-o-angeloylhamaudol, hamaudol gluco-
side, 5-o-methylvisamminol, cimifugin, etc..

| Pharmacology Actions: |
Drug Description Long conical or long cylin-
drical, gradually tapering at lower part, some
slightly tortuous, 15-30 cm long, 0.5-2 cm in
diameter. Externally greyish-brown, rough, with
longitudinal wrinkles, numerous transverse-
elongated lenticels and dotted raised rootlet
scars. Crown with obvious dense annulations,
some marked by brown hair-like remains of leaf
bases. Texture loose, light, fracture short,
fractured surface uneven, bark brownish and
cracked, wood yellowish. Odour characteristic;
taste sweetish. Fig.

The drug is used as
diaphoretic, anti-rheumatic; for the treatment
of cold, headache, fever, rheumatic arthralgia,
spasmodic pain of the limbs, tetanus.
