| Constituents: |
volatile oil,consisting of
butylidenephthalide,butylphthalide, ligustilide,
4-hydroxy-3-butylphthalide; the root contains
tetramethylpyraxine, 1-(5-hydroxymethyl-2-futyl)-
9H-pyrido (3,4,6) indole.It also contains chry-
sophanol, ferulic acid, sedanonic acid.

| Pharmacology Actions: |
1. Effecting on cardiovascular system: its
aqueous extract and its alkaloid could dilate on
coronary artery, increase coronary flow,improve
myocardia providing oxygen, reduce myocardia
consuming oxygen. It also had marked and lasting
hypotensive effect.
2. Paralyzing action: The large dose of extract
liquor could inhibit intestinum angustum contra-
tilition and uteri contralilition at pregnancy
animal.
3. Sedative effect:its volatile oil and aqueous
extract showed sedative effect. The aqueous ex-
tract could resist coffein-reduced excitement.
4. Resisting radiation effect.
5. Antibacterial effect: it showed inhibitory
action against many gram-negative bacilli and
skin fungi.

| Actions and Indications: |
The drug is used to promote the flow of blood
and qi, dispel wind and relieve pain, for the
treatment of menstrual disorders, amenorrhea,
dysmenorrhea,abdominal pain with mass formation,
pricking pain in the chest, swelling and pain
due to traumatic injury, headache, rheumatic
arthralgia.
