| Constituents: |
The drug contains volatile oils,
such as atractylon, butenolide A and B, ace-
toxyatractylon, hydroxyatractylon, and also
contains hydroxy-butenolide, etc..

| Pharmacology Actions: |
Intragastric adminis-
tration of its decoction for 1 month increased
the body weight and swimming endurance of mice
and promoted cellular immunity. Some reports
said it showed marked and prolonged diuretic
effect and subcutaneous injection of its ex-
tract also proved a significant hypoglycemic
effect. Intragastric administration of the
decoction to rats for 1-4 weeks significantly
prolonged the prothrombin time. It also showed
vasodilatory action and cardiac depressant
action. High Dosage caused asystole.The neutral
fraction of the volatile oil of it showed in
vitro to have a significant inhibitory action
on esophageal carcinoma cells. The oral decoc-
tion had a liver-protective action in mice. The
LD50 of its decoction in mice by intraperito-
neal injection was 13.3g/kg.

The drug is used as
spleen invigorator, diuretic; for the treatment
of hypofunction of the spleen with anorexia,
abdominal distention and chronic diarrhea, diz-
ziness and lassitude, edema, spontaneous
sweating, fetal distress.
