| Pharmacology Actions: |
In vitro studies its
decoction exhibited different degrees of anti-
bacterial activity against many common patho-
gens.Baicalein at high concentrations was shown
in vivo to inhibit the growth of amaeba. Oral
administration of baicalin 50mg/kg/day to egg
white-sensitized guinea pigs for 7 days pro-
tected the animals against allergic reaction
due to reinspiration of the antigen, signifi-
cantly prolonging the latent period of convul-
sion. Intraperitoneal injection of baicalin 500
or 1000 mg/kg to mice resulted in sedative
effect lasting 2-3 hours.The decoction at 0.24-
0.48 g/kg IV or 2g/kg PO or baicalin at 130
mg/kg IP or IV subsided fever in rabbits given
a mixed typhoid vaccine. An antipyretic effect
was also achieved with the oral decoction on
artificial fever induced by years in rabbits.
The fluid extract 0.5g/kg IV, or the extract
1g/kg PO or the decoction 60 mg/kg IV, or the
ethanol extract 1g(crude drug)/kg IV or intra-
muscularly or baicalin 10-20 mg/kg IV marked by
lowered the blood pressure. It also showed
diuretic, cholagogic, choleric, spasmolytic and
detoxicant effect. Its preparations have very
low toxicity if given orally but high if given
intravenously.
