| Constituents: |
Root and rhizome contains glycyrrhizin, liquirtin,
isoliquiritin, dihydroxyglycyrrhetic acid, licori-
cidin, glycyrol, 5-0-methyl glycerol, iso-glycyrol,
¦Â-sitosterol, formononetin, licoricone, liconeo-
lignan, mannite, glucose, betulic acid, biotin, vo-
latile oils, and starch.

| Pharmacology Actions: |
Detoxication: glycyrrhizin and its calci showed
strong detoxication on diphtheria toxin, tetanus
toxin, and also detoxication on anaphylactia,ex-
perimental hepatitis in animals,tetrodotoxism and
snake toxin. Glycyrrhize showed anti-AIDS virus
effect.
Antiinflammatory and anti-metamorphosis actions:
glycyrrhetic acid showed inhibitory action against
cotton-ball-like granuloma, formaldehy-induced
swelling, tuberculinaction,subcutaneous granula-
tion cystic inflammation. Ammonium glycyrrhinic,
solidum glycyrrhetic could effective in subcuta-
neous granulation cystic inflammation exudation
period and proliferation period.
Expectorat effect:The drug could promote mucus
secretion in pharynx laryngea and bronchi,induced
sputum easy to be discharged.
Glycyrrhetic derivative showed marked antitu-
ssive effect on experimental cough in guinea pigs
and cats.
The different preparation of the drug signifi-
cant inhibited experimental gastric ulcer in rats,
the aqueous extract of the drug protected gastric
mucous membrance, treat for gastric ulcer.
Effect on the secretion of gastric juice: After
intragastric administration of fluid extract, it
could adhere gastric acidity, so could decrease
its concentration.
Paralyzing action: The decoction and fluid ex-
tract of the drug inhibited isolated animals in-
testines, and showed anti-spasm effect on inte-
stine spasm induced by acetylcholine, BaCl2 and
histamine.
The drug prevented the animals from experimen-
tal hepatic injury.Glycyrrhizin and glycyrrhetic
acid could prevent experimental hepatocirrhosis.
Antineoplastive effect:glycyrrhetic acid showed
inhibitory action against experimental myeloma
and ascites hepatoma in rats, Ehrlich ascitic
carcinoma in mice.

It is used to clear away heat and toxins,arrest
cough, moisturize lung, moderate the properties
of other drugs. For the treatment of sore throat,
cough, deficiency of spleen and stomach, gastric
and duodenal ulcer, hepatitis, sores and carbun-
cles, food and drug poisoning.
