The drug contains gutta-percha
(C5H8)n, aucubin, pinoresinol, sitosterol,
betulin, betulic acid, ursolis acid, and also
contains resin tannin, etc..

| Pharmacology Actions: |
The herb decoction at
0.4g/kg by intravenous injection to the anes-
thetical dogs rapidly lowered blood pressure.
The decoction perfused into the blood vessels
of frog hind limbs exhibited a dilatory action
which became more significant when the concen-
tration reached 0.01%. The decoction at 10g/kg
by intraperitoneal injection to mice reduced
spontaneous activity. The hot plate method also
proved the analgesic effect of the decoction or
alcohol extract by IP to mice at 0.02ml. The
decoction by intragastric administration to
rats at 6g/kg or the alcohol extract at 10g/kg
had an inhibitory action on egg white-induced
paw swelling.Both the decoction and the alcohol
extract of the herb antagonized the stimulant
action of pituitrin and acetylcholine on the
isolated uteri of rats and rabbits. Its immunal
stimulant function was also proved. The various
preparation exhibited diuretic action in anes-
thetized dogs. It also showed anti-stress and
anti-senility effect and inhibitory action
against certain bacteria.

The drug is used as
tonic for the liver and kidney; for the treat-
ment of lassitude, hypertension, threatened
abortion, pain of loins and knees, impotence.
