The drug contains emodin, parie-
tin, chrysophanol, emodin-8-¦Â-glucoside, and
also contains resveratrol, tannin, etc..

| Pharmacology Actions: |
In vitro studies showed
that the decoction, polygonin and polydatin
were inhibitory against bacteria and was lethal
to leptospirae. Its decoction showed antiviral
effect. Polydatin or its crude preparation
produced an antitussive effect in mice with
ammonia spray-induced cough.Polydatin exhibited
hypotensive effect.Polydatin also showed signi-
ficant anticholesterolemic effect and markedly
prolonged sleep induced by pentobar-bital so-
dium and urethane. The stilbene deriva-tives
exerted hemostatic and astringent actions when
applied locally. The LD50 of polygonin in mice
was 1363.9¡À199.4mg/kg IP.

| Actions and Indications: |
The drug is used as
analgesic, antipyretic, diuretic, expectorant,
antitussive; for the treatment of arthralgia,
jaundice, amenorrhea, chronic bronchitis,
hypertension; external used for scalds and
burns, traumatic injures.
