| Constituents: |
The rhizome contains 0.11-0.42 percent of vo-
latile oils comprised mostly of ¦Â-asarone,
¦Á-asarone, safrole, eugenol and other 28
kinds of compositions.

| Pharmacology Actions: |
Rhizome flat terete, slightly cured, usually
branched, 3-20cm long, 0.3-1cm in diameter.
Externally brown, brown red or gray yellow,
rough, much circled, internodes 2-8mm long;
showing flat deltoid leaf scars on upper
part, round dotted root scars on lower part.
Texture hard, section fibrous, whitish or
slight reddish. Odor fragrant, taste bitter,
slight pungent.

| Actions and Indications: |
The drug is used to reduce phlegm, induce
resuscitation, smooth Qi, promote circula-
tion, dispel pathogenic wind-damp; for the
treatment of epilepsy, forgetfulness, confu-
sion of the mind,forgetfulness,stomach ache,
abdomen ache, rheumatic arthralgia, carbun-
cles, traumatic injuries.
